A Visit From Jack Frost

I am tickled to share a poem that was recently published in SnowPro, the "official publication of the Professional Ski Instructors of America Eastern / Education Foundation." It was originally written for a newsletter I write for the Blue Mountain Learning Center, but I changed our director's name, Joe, back to the first person of the original. Enjoy!

Mogul Queen Jeanne Weiser started skiing when she was 17 at Apple Hill, in Allentown. Her first time was “not fun,” as she was “falling all over the place.” She has come a long way since then! She has skied many different places and, although she is approaching retirement age, is one of the best bump skiers around!

Instructor Profile #6: Susan Page

In fiction, people need spells or a wand to transform things from one state of being to another. Sue Page, however, of Susan Page Photography, makes magic with her camera. A Blue Mountain ski instructor, she is also the leading beauty and boudoir photographer in the Lehigh Valley and brings out the awesomeness that is within every woman through her images.

Instructor Profile #5: Eric Lipton

I had heard about Eric Lipton long before I ever met him. I remember riding the lift with some instructors at Blue Mountain and Eric was initially described as one of the few select members of the PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) National Team who travels wherever there is snow training other instructors. His skiing abilities were praised and likened to “a technical manual come to life.” As we ascended the hill, the stories became more fanciful: “It was an overcast day, but when Eric began to ski, the clouds opened and a sunbeam followed him down the mountain,” and then almost Biblical: “Eric was at the top of the moguls and when he planted his pole, the bumps parted and he skied down the middle.” The funny thing is, Eric’s rise through PSIA, which has enabled him to impact many people as he has skied all over the world, might not have happened. Just over a decade ago, he was barely skiing at all.

Some people spend their whole lives trying to figure out what they want to do when they grow up. Kurt Hutchinson found two passions around age 10, when he started skiing and playing the drums. He still does both, with some construction on the side.
