We few, we happy few...

Martin Luther King and Presidents' Weekends are busy times at ski resorts and can feel a bit overwhelming with the volume of guests that we typically experience.  Although I'm no Shakespeare scholar, I like to watch the St Crispin's speech from Henry V to get inspired going into these holiday weekends.  This year, I rewrote parts and our director edited it further and performed!  Go Joe!
(That same evening, a group called "Band of Brothers" played at the mountain.  Serendipity, indeed!)

NEW INSTRUCTOR: O that we now have here
But one hundred of our team members
that cannot work today

JOE: Who’s he that wishes so?
A new instructor? No, my fair teammate;
If we are mark’d in Flaik to teach,
then we are enough.

The fewer instructors, the greater share of honor.
Ullr's will! I pray thee, wish not one instructor more.
No, faith, my newbie, wish not an instructor from elsewhere.
Ullr's peace! I would not lose so great an honor
…We would not teach in that person’s company
That can’t come on the holiday weekend to teach with us.
This day is call’d Presidents Day.
He that outteaches this day, and slides safe home,
Will stand a’summit when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Presidents day.
He that shall teach this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his teammates,
And say "To-morrow is Presidents day."
Then will he flip his plank and show his core-shots.
And say "These scars I had on Presidents day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What massive lessons he taught that day.
Then shall our names, Familiar in his mouth as household words--
Joe the Director, Keith and Timothy,
Sharon and Sheri, Sue, Lisa, and all the front desk staff
And all the instructors of this day
Be in their flowing turns freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good parents teach their children;
And Presidents Day shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the winters,
But we in it shall forever be rememberèd--
We few, we happy few, we band of instructors;
For they to-day that teach sliding with me
Shall be called legendary; be they intern, junior, or veteran,
This day shall give them honor;
And instructors elsewhere now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their credentials cheap whiles any speaks
Who taught with us this Presidents Day Weekend!

WESTMORLAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
KING. What's he that wishes so?
My cousin, Westmorland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enough
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more. ....
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour ...
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say "To-morrow is Saint Crispian."
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say "These wounds I had on Crispin's day."
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words--
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-

Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd--
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
If you'd like to see the Henry V version, here's a clip from the 1989 film.  Some of the comments are outstanding!
